BOTOX® Cosmetic FAQs
BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most popular options for treating facial lines and wrinkles. Learn more about BOTOX® Cosmetic by reviewing the following frequently asked questions.
What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a diluted form of Botulinum Toxin Type A that is injected into facial muscles to achieve facial rejuvenation. The injections block the nerve impulses and cause the muscles to relax, creating a smoother, more youthful appearance.
Is BOTOX® Cosmetic safe?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is an FDA-approved facial rejuvenation treatment. When performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, the procedure is extremely safe.
How is BOTOX® Cosmetic administered?
The BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure is an in-office treatment that can be performed in your doctor's office in as little as 30 minutes. Your doctor will begin by asking you to contract and hold still the facial muscles to be treated. The injections will then be given directly into those areas.
Who is a candidate?
Nearly anyone who is concerned about facial lines and wrinkles may be considered a good candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic. However, women who are pregnant or nursing, and individuals who are allergic to the injectable treatment, may not be suitable candidates for BOTOX® injections.
What results can I expect?
You should notice an improvement in the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles within three to five days of receiving the BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. The results are not permanent, and should last for about four to six months before follow up treatments are necessary.
