BOTOX® Cosmetic is an FDA-approved medicine most commonly used to decrease the appearance of facial wrinkles, including frown lines and crows’ feet. Review the following frequently asked questions to learn more about BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Who is a candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Patients who want to decrease the appearance of facial wrinkles around the eyes or mouth should consider BOTOX® injections. In general, patients who are in good overall health make good candidates for this non-invasive procedure. However, patients with muscle or nerve conditions should consult with their physicians before undergoing BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment.

How is the procedure performed?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is administered during a short, in-office procedure. Your plastic surgeon will use a fine needle to inject small amounts of BOTOX® Cosmetic into the treatment area to achieve natural-looking facial rejuvenation.

How long do BOTOX® injections last?

The results from BOTOX® injections generally last anywhere from three to four months before follow up treatments are necessary. BOTOX® Cosmetic can also be combined with other treatments, such as eyelid surgery, for more dramatic results.

Will I be able to move my face after BOTOX® injections?

Yes, BOTOX® Cosmetic is carefully administered to provide natural-looking results, and patients who have BOTOX® injections are able to make normal facial expressions after treatment.

Are there any other uses for BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Some physicians inject BOTOX® Cosmetic into areas of the body that sweat excessively – for example, the armpits. BOTOX® Cosmetic has also been used for neurological purposes. BOTOX® helps patients who experience spasms, or involuntary muscle contractions. Some doctors also use BOTOX® Cosmetic to treat patients who experience moderate to severe migraine headaches.
