Liposuction

Patients who want to fine tune their figures may benefit from liposuction. Liposuction is ideal for both men and women who have maintained a steady weight and lead healthy lifestyles, but are unable to rid themselves of stubborn pockets of fat. Areas that are commonly treated with liposuction include the abdomen, back, neck, upper arms, inner thighs, buttocks, and knees for women and the torso and under the chin for men. Dr. Mayl's goal is to perform your liposuction procedure in the safest and most gentle manner possible. He utilizes a combination of sedation and local anesthesia to reduce recovery time. The final results of liposuction will be visible after several weeks of healing, when swelling and bruising have diminished. The result of liposuction is a leaner, more toned figure. Tumescent Liposuction

Considered to be one of the safest and most effective liposuction techniques, tumescent liposuction involves injecting a liquid made of epinephrine and an anesthetic into the targeted area. The liquid causes fat cells to swell and become firm, making the extraction process smoother and quicker. This technique also minimizes some of the unpleasant effects of liposuction, such as blood loss, pain, bruising, and swelling.

Ultrasonic Liposuction

Ultrasonic liposuction is another advanced technique that uses ultrasonic waves transmitted through a thin vacuum tube called a cannula to liquefy fat in hard-to-treat areas like the cheeks, chin, neck, calves, and ankles. Generally used in combination with tumescent liposuction, this method helps to emulsify large quantities of fat, making extraction easier. In addition, ultrasonic liposuction helps to firm up the overlying baggy skin for smoother, more contoured results.

Erchonia™ Laser-assisted Liposuction

Dr. Mayl is proud to feature the first and only laser approved by the FDA to assist in liposuction at his plastic surgery practice. Made by Erchonia™, LipoLaser™ is a low level laser that melts fat during liposuction to make removal quicker and easier. This advanced technology minimizes the risk of side effects such as pain and bruising and allows for a faster recovery. Liposuction with the Erchonia™ laser can treat localized areas of fat on the neck, arms, back, waist, and buttocks.

Smartlipo™

Like liposuction performed with the Erchonia™ laser, Smartlipo™ is an innovative body contouring technique that uses a laser fiber to liquefy stubborn fat and tone the body. A tiny probe with a low-energy laser fiber is placed into the targeted area to break down the fat cells. The fat is then drained away through a cannula. The treatment has no effect on the surrounding tissue, making it a safe and effective liposuction method that leaves very little scarring.

LipoDissolve™

LipoDissolve™ is a state-of-the-art body sculpting technique that involves injecting a soy-based medication called phosphatidylcholine deoxycholate into the treatment area to break apart and dissolve fat cells, which are then naturally eliminated by the body. In addition, the treatment stimulates collagen production which can tighten the skin. LipoDissolve™ can be used on the face, arms, back, knees, stomach, hips, thighs, buttocks, and other areas.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is performed to firm and flatten the abdomen in individuals who are in relatively good shape, but are bothered by a large fat deposit that is unresponsive to diet and exercise. Women who have had children are good candidates for tummy tuck, as they often have stretched abdominal muscles and excess skin.

There are three variations to the tummy tuck procedure: mini tummy tuck, circumferential abdominoplasty, and traditional tummy tuck. Depending on individual needs and goals, tummy tuck surgery may also be combined with liposuction for more dramatic results.

A mini tummy tuck requires a small, single incision. Recovery from a mini tummy tuck takes less time than a circumferential abdominoplasty, which requires that an incision be made along the entire waistline, and fat be removed from the abdomen, hips, and back. In a traditional tummy tuck, the incision is made from hip bone to hip bone. Dr. Mayl will position the incisions so that they are hidden by underwear, and scarring will fade over time. Once the incisions are made, excess fat and skin will be removed. The abdominal muscles will be tightened together, revealing a smaller and more defined waist. The belly button is retained, but may be repositioned, as needed.

Mommy Makeover

Treatment for Gynecomastia

Dr. Mayl provides gynecomastia treatment to males suffering from enlarged breasts. Male breast enlargement can occur as a result of taking certain medications, gaining excess weight, or an overproduction of glandular tissue during puberty. Dr. Mayl uses liposuction techniques to treat gynecomastia. With liposuction, Dr. Mayl can remove excess fat and breast tissue from the area through tiny incisions that are well hidden around the areola. Patients can usually return to work approximately four days after the procedure.

Cellulite Treatment with VelaShape™

For patients with troublesome cellulite, Dr. Mayl offers VelaShape™, a revolutionary, non-surgical treatment to smooth out the appearance of cellulite and tighten the skin in the thighs, hips, buttocks, and arms for a firmer, more contoured appearance. VelaShape™ treatment combines mechanical rollers, vacuum suction, and infrared light to treat areas of localized fat deposits that contribute to the "cottage cheese" appearance. The treatment is so effective on bumps and bulges that it is FDA approved to reduce and even eliminate the appearance of cellulite.
