BOTOX® Cosmetic
One of the most popular FDA-approved wrinkle reducers on the market, BOTOX® Cosmetic is available at the Mayl Center for Plastic Surgery & Cosmetic Medicine. Ideal candidates for BOTOX® treatment include individuals who are bothered by lines on their forehead and around the mouth, or who have troubling folds of skin on their neck. Now, BOTOX® Cosmetic is frequently offered as a part of a combination session with fillers such as JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel or Sculptra® to prolong and enhance the results.
BOTOX® injections, administered by Dr. Mayl, temporarily paralyze the muscles that cause wrinkles, resulting in a smoother and more uniform appearance of the skin on the forehead, face, and neck. Though some results of BOTOX® treatment can be seen immediately, the most discernable results start to appear after a few days. BOTOX® injections are ideal for individuals who choose not to undergo a traditional cosmetic surgery procedure. JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel

JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel is made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in the body that fills in lines and helps the skin to retain its moisture. The level of hyaluronic acid in the skin decreases over time, making skin thinner and more prone to wrinkles, lines, creases, and other visible signs of aging. JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel replenishes this essential substance, effectively plumping it up and promoting the production of collagen for supple, youthful skin.
Treatment with JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel takes less than 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. Results are immediate and can last up to nine months. Sculptra®
Sculptra® is an innovative cosmetic injectable made of polylactic acid, a synthetic biocompatible substance used in many surgical products, to treat fine lines, wrinkles, folds, scars, hollows, and other depressed areas and enhance the contours of the face for aesthetically pleasing results. Sculptra® works differently than BOTOX® Cosmetic and other cosmetic injectables. The polylactic acid restores volume by gradually increasing the thickness of the skin over time in areas that have sunken in due to fat loss and the effects of aging. It also promotes the production of natural collagen in the body for long-lasting facial augmentation.
Treatment usually takes 30 minutes and results can last up to two years. Additional treatments may be needed to obtain the desired results. Radiesse®
Radiesse® is an advanced dermal filler treatment that is effective at treating lines and wrinkles around the mouth and nose that result from the natural aging process. It is also an FDA-approved treatment for maxillofacial defects, facial wasting, vocal cord deficiencies, and scars. In addition, patients can receive Radiesse® injections as a non-surgical alternative to chin and cheek implants.
Made of naturally-occurring calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a gel solution, Radiesse® injections help to plump up the skin to reduce the appearance of smile lines. The microspheres also stimulate the production of collagen for silky, resilient skin. Treatment with Radiesse® injections usually takes 15 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. Like Restylane® and JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel, Perlane® is made of natural hyaluronic acid that helps to supplement the body's own supply. Perlane® can minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles, acne scars, nasolabial folds, and other telltale signs of aging. The injections can also be used to add more fullness and definition to the lips, cheeks, chin, and other facial areas in need of contour as well as be used as a temporary eyebrow lift. Fat Grafting
Also known as facial fat transfer or microlipoinjection, fat grafting is a safe and effective way to add more definition to targeted areas of the face for smooth, rejuvenated skin. Fat grafting is a popular non-surgical alternative to chin and cheek implants, blepharoplasty, face lift surgery, and browlift surgery. It can reduce the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles, scars, and other facial depressions for a youthful and more uniform complexion.
The treatment involves using liposuction techniques to collect small amounts of fat cells from other areas of the body. Common areas that fat cells are harvested from include the stomach, hips, and thighs. Undamaged fat cells are separated from damaged ones and cleaned. These fat cells are then injected into specific areas of the face to provide more contour. Results last years longer than those obtained by cosmetic injectables. Fat grafting can be combined with other treatments offered at our practice, such as laser skin resurfacing, for the ultimate cosmetic makeover.
Silicone Injections
The most unique of all injectables is silicone. It was the first injectable used in the United States with consistently good results in the hands of physicians who are highly experienced. Dr. Mayl was trained in its use in the 1970s when it was approved by the FDA. He and other experienced injectors had exceptional results without problems, but were forced to stop using it when the approval was withdrawn. It is now once again available as an "off label", which means that it can legally be used at the physician's discretion. Since its return, Dr. Mayl has been using it in the special group of patients where it will give the best of results. This includes the fine lines about the lips and under acne scars where no other material seems to work well. It also can be used in some patients who cannot tolerate other fillers because allergy is exceedingly rare. It has the advantage of lifetime durability and great cost-effectiveness. Dr. Mayl has never experienced a problem in any of his patients using silicone which is typical of highly experienced injectors.
